Sony Xperia Z2 Launched in India at Rupees 49,990

NEW DELHI: Sony has launched its top-end Xperia Z2 smartphone in the Indian market, bringing a competitor to the HTC One (M8) and Samsung Galaxy S5. This smartphone is the successor of Xperia Z1, which was launched just six months ago, and is priced at Rs 49,990.

Sony is also offering a free smart band worth Rs 5,990 and back cover worth Rs 2,990 with the smartphone.

The new Xperia Z2, unveiled globally at Mobile World Congress 2014 in February, features a 5.2-inch Full HD IPS screen that provides better sunlight readability than its predecessor. The smartphone also sports an updated design and uses the 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 chipset with 3GB RAM. It runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat) layered with a proprietary skin.

Xperia Z2 has a 20.7MP camera with Exmor R for Mobile sensor, similar to what its predecessor offered. However, it has new features like 4K and slow-motion recording, Vine along with Evernote and Vine uploads directly from the camera app.

Like other top-end Sony smartphones, Xperia Z2 is water-resistant and dustproof and features shatterproof glass on the back.

Other key features of the smartphone include 16GB internal storage, microSD card support up to 128GB, 3,200mAh battery and stereo speakers. It can access the internet over 2G, 3G and Wi-Fi, while data can be transferred via NFC, microUSB 2.0 and Bluetooth 4.0.

While HTC One (M8) has two cameras on the back and Samsung Galaxy S5 has fingerprint scanner and heart rate monitor, Sony Xperia Z2 does not have any such special features to make it stand apart.
